And We Brightly Shine
It’s more than shocking, a jolt,
cracked shellac in the post,
unboxing all you thought had been carefully boxed,
as folds hold whole what is split,
falls to pieces in your hands, only bits
and then one day crumbles to dust and grit.
Can you remember when 33 seemed as distant
as coming across those hidden tracks on CDs
themselves now almost defunct
as vinyl was to Punk,
giving way to New Wave, New Romantic,
Hip Hop, Brit Pop crossing the
hard to fill 78 minutes plus running time,
but there it is, you did it, you’re done.
Prepared to go where those you loved have gone,
but here you are mirrored lingering,
more than shocking, that glimmering
of who you were on shop fronts shimmering.
